how to look like a million dollars

I’ve always loved high-low fashion. There are so many ways to dress elegantly without breaking the bank and I was inspired to share my tips and tricks when I read this Harper’s Bazaar article. Here are my favourite ways to look like a million dollars without spending it:

1. Invest in accessories,
specifically shoes + bags.
They can make a $5 tee look like a million bucks.

2. It’s all about the fit
If your garment fits you properly, it will look like luxurious, regardless of the price point. Think about investing in a tailor.

3. Well-groomed.
Well-groomed nails and hair and simple, clean makeup exude a subtle and gorgeous elegance.

4. The Camel Coat
One of the best purchases I’ve made in the last 5 years. I still wear it all the time and constantly get compliments on it (I recently had a woman ask if it was Stella McCartney (!). Simple, clean lines and tailoring are the keys here.

5. Stay away from obnoxious logos
Nothing says you want to people to know you’re wealthy like parading around with logos all over your clothing/accessories. The chicest of women keep it simple, subtle and elegant.

6. Good shape
Your clothes should be in good shape, I think that goes without saying (although I’ve been known to wear something to death). . If it’s got a rip or it’s pilling- throw it away. Seriously.

7. The Uniform
A classic combo (jeans + tee) or a head to toe colour (or lack thereof…) never fails.

8. Don’t forget the sunnies
Jackie O. Enough said.

Lastly… SMILE! It’s always the best accessory.

I had a big, busy week last week! Straight off the plane from Ontario, I went into a whirlwind of preparation for my CTV spring fashion segment! It was all very exciting, nerve-racking and completely out of my comfort zone, which was ultimately really good for me. I think I can get stuck with what’s comfortable a little too easily sometimes. Check out the segment here and a big thank you to LOVEthatBag, Fysh Eyewear, The September, Aritizia, Joe Fresh  and Banana Republic for providing clothes + accessories.

Happy Monday!

PS Don’t forget to check out the Gastown Shop Hop, this Thursday evening from 5-9pm… There is not a more fun activity than shopping and eating/drinking!

Perfect tips! It’s always a great feeling when people think that a bargain is designer! I’ve been asked if an H&M bag was Chanel before haha
