We got a puppy! It was about 2 weeks post wedding and we are thrilled. We went through Niagara dog rescue and they were absolutely wonderful – it was really important to us to rescue. Theodore came with all his shots and vaccinations up to date – he was brought up from Nashville with his brothers + sisters. An amazing woman drove 14 hours in a van with 10 dogs – can you believe that? She’s an angel.
Contrary to popular belief, you can rescue a puppy – it may take more time and you may not get the exact breed you’re looking for, but there are lots of puppies available (they go fast though!) My advice would be to get in touch with a rescue society, apply for adoption and if accepted they’ll come and meet you and inspect your house/apartment. Once you’ve been approved, you can let them know what you’re looking for and they will do their best to find it. Dogs come and go very quickly, and sometimes puppies won’t even be put up on their website, so having a relationship with a rescue organization is very important.
We were very open to large breed puppies, and ended up getting exactly what we were secretly hoping for – a boxer mix! Theo will be very present on my social media (he’s too cute not to be!).
If you have any questions about adopting, please don’t hesitate to reach out – I’m happy to chat about my experiences.
Congratulations! Theo is adorable!
Hey Jill,
Can you share where you adopted from? Interested in finding a puppy myself and would very much like to adopt/rescue!
