how to wear the 90’s trend

I very clearly remember my first choker. It was in grade 9 and it was a stretchy, plastic one from Claire’s that almost looked like a tattoo (I know you guys know what I’m talking about 🙂 ). Needless to say, I didn’t think I would be resurrecting any trends from my early teens (yikes), but if I’ve learned anything from my time in the fashion industry, it’s to never say never. So the 90’s are back… or did they ever really leave? I think that parts of trends always stick around (the 90’s minimalism of Helmut Lang? Hello!) but I love how fashion is cyclical and that a very old trend can look fresh with just a few tweaks. See below for my tips on how to wear the 90’s trend in a modern way:

1. Stick to simple pieces.
This slip dress may be 90’s all the way, but it’s still simple + chic. I find that by picking decade-inspired pieces that still ascribe to your style (I consider my style quite simple), you can integrate the trend in a contemporary way.

2. Pick only one or two trends
Don’t try and imitate the decade’s style… you want to incorporate it. For this look, I chose a simple slip dress and a choker and paired it with modern heels.

3. Keep hair + makeup fresh… and to a minimum.
This is a great way to ensure you still look modern. I tend to wear simple and neutral makeup with my signature beachy waves and I definitely didn’t stray from that for this trendy look.

Are you guys feeling the 90’s trend? How are you incorporating it into your wardrobe?

I’m all about chockers at the moment, I wear my black one pretty much ever single day! 😀 Also, love your beachy waves, I have the same length of hair and that’s my go-to hairstyle too 🙂
